Wat Pho (วัดโพธิ์) Bangkok, Thailand

The Wat Pho is one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok and 

is home to more than one thousand Buddha images, as well as one 

of the largest single Buddha images, the Reclining Buddha.

district, Bangkok, Thailand.

 It is located in the Rattanakosin 

district directly adjacent to the 

Grand Palace.

It known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha
name is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhlaram Ratchaworamahawihan 
(Thai: วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร). 


The temple is also known as the

 birthplace of traditional Thai massage


< Reclining Buddha >

Most people go straight to the enormous Reclining Buddha in the 
northwestern corner of the compound section. 

It is more than 43m (141 ft) long and 15m (49 ft) high. 


The statue is brick, covered with layers of plaster and gold leaf the feet are inlaid with 
mother-of-pearl illustrations of 108 auspicious laksanas (characteristics) of the Buddha. 


Outside, the grounds contain 91 chedis (stupas or mounds), four 
viharns (halls), and a bot (the central shrine in a Buddhist temple).


< Thai massage >

 The temple is home to one of the earliest Thai massage 

schools. For Thai massage therapists, the medical inscription inside 

the temple acts as a base for treatment. There are 60 plaques 

inscribed, 30 each for the front and back of human body.
